Meet the Coaching Staff
Caleb Corey started his rowing career at Purdue University in 2012, where he rowed competitively all for years until graduating in 2016. He mostly rowed in the Men's Lightweight 8, while spending time in the Varsity 4 and JV 8. During his rowing career at Purdue, he competed in major regattas such as San Diego Crew Classic, SIRA and Dad Vail. He won bronze in Men's Novice Lightweight 8 during his Freshman year and also a brozne in Men's Varsity Lightweight 8 in 2016 at Dad Vail.
After graduating from Purdue, he has coached Juniors at Indianapolis Rowing Center and started coaching at IUPUI in the spring of 2017 as the Assistant Coach. In 2018, he served as the Varsity Men's Coach and now serves as the Head Coach since the spring of 2019. He continued to row with his fellow Purdue Alumni and competed at the 2019 USRowing Master's National Championships in the Men's Open 4- with Coach Richards, Gibson and Anderle. His crew finished 4th in the A-Final.
Varsity Men's Coach
Colton Richards started his rowing career at Purdue University in 2013, where he rowed competitively all four years until graduating in 2017. Much of that time, he rowed in the Men’s Lightweight 8 while also spending time in the Men’s Varsity 8 and some in the Men’s JV 8. During his rowing career at Purdue, he earned a number of Golds, Silvers, and Bronze at a number of regattas including Dad Vails, SIRA and ACRA National Championships. His personal favorite memory from rowing is winning the Secretary of the Navy Cup at the San Diego Crew Classic by beating Cal and other IRA programs.
Since then, he has continued to row competitively with fellow Purdue Rowing Alumni at the Indianapolis Rowing Center. His latest rowing endeavor was competing at the Master’s National Championship and his crew placed 4th in the A final in Men's Open 4-. Along with rowing, Colton enjoys working other muscles and competing in triathlons and marathons. What he likes most about the sport of rowing is the comradery, life-long friendships, and the personal growth after facing such great challenges. He enjoys coaching hard working athletes and seeing them overcome their own great challenges where they to grow and succeed. He has been coaching at IUPUI since the spring of 2019
Chris Gibson has been rowing competitively since 2007 and coaching since 2016. He started his rowing career at the Indianapolis Rowing Center and qualified for Youth Nationals in his senior year. He continued to row all through his college career for Purdue, finishing second at the San Diego Crew Classic and won the Marietta Challenge Cub in 2014 in the Varsity 8+. During his senior year at Purdue, he was a part of the Varsity 8+ crew that finished the season as the sixth ranked boat in the country.
Since college, he has coached for high school and masters rowing at Indianapolis Rowing Center and he now serves as the Novice Coach for IUPUI. His latest rowing endeavor was competeing at the 2019 USRowing Master's National Championship with Coach Corey, Anderle and Richards in Men's Open 4-. His crew placed 4th in the A-Final
David Anderle has been rowing since 2013, starting at Purdue Crew. As a varsity heavyweight rower, he competed in major regattas all across the county such as San Diego Crew Classic, SIRA . Dad Vail and ACRA. In his senior year, he served as the club president.
After graduating from Purdue, he continued to be involved wth the sport, both rowing with alumni and coaching. His latest rowing endeavor was competeing at the 2019 USRowing Master's National Championship with Coach Corey, Gibson and Richards in Men's Open 4-. His crew placed 4th in the A-Final. Since the spring of 2019, he has been coaching at IUPUI as the Varsity Men's Assistant Coach.
Taylor Gainey started his rowing career at IUPUI in 2015. He competitively rowed until he graduated in 2017. He served as the club president in 2016. During that year, the team went to ACRA Henley for the first time to compete on a national level and IUPUI Rowing would not be what we are today without his leadership. Since the spring of 2018, he has been coaching at IUPUI as the Assistnat Coach. He is thrilled to be apart of the team as they push even further.
